The Imperial Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce joined the City of Calipatria, community leaders, project partners, and residents to facilitate and celebrate the groundbreaking of the City of Calipatria's new Community Center and Park, a project that represents a major investment in the future of the community and its residents.

Held on June 16, the ceremony marked the official start of construction on a development that will provide new recreational opportunities, gathering spaces, and community amenities for generations to come. The project is expected to be completed and ready for public use in June 2027.
Community members gathered alongside elected officials, regional partners, and project stakeholders to commemorate the milestone and recognize the collaborative efforts that helped bring the vision to reality.
Among those in attendance were representatives from the offices of State Senator Steve Padilla and Assemblymember Jeff Gonzalez, former California State Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia, City of Calipatria Mayor Michael Luellen, Mayor Pro Tem Fred Beltran, members of the Calipatria City Council, representatives from Dempsey Construction, and community leaders from throughout the region.
During the ceremony, Imperial Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce President Victor Nava reflected on the significance of the project and its impact on the community.
"Today is about more than turning dirt. It is about investing in people. It is about creating a place where families can gather, children can play, neighbors can connect, and our community can come together with pride."
As a lifelong Calipatria resident, Nava shared his personal connection to the area and emphasized the importance of continued investment in local communities.
"Projects like this do not happen overnight, nor do they happen by chance. They require vision, persistence, and collaboration. They take the commitment of elected officials, community leaders, stakeholders, organizations, staff, and residents who believe in a better future and are willing to work together to make it happen."
The new park and community center will feature:
Community Center
Playground
Outdoor Park Space
Splash Pad
Dedicated Parking Lot
The development is designed to create a welcoming destination for families, youth, and residents of all ages while providing much-needed recreational amenities and gathering space for the Calipatria community.
Construction will be led by Dempsey Construction in partnership with Kirk Moeller Architects and McCullough Landscape Architects. The City of Calipatria also recognized Gafcon PM-CM LLC for providing project and construction management services throughout the development process.
The groundbreaking represents another example of what can be achieved through collaboration, shared vision, and long-term investment in the communities that make up the Imperial Valley region.
The Imperial Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce congratulates the City of Calipatria and all project partners on this exciting milestone and looks forward to celebrating the project's completion in 2027.
